Alda Seafood Holding B.V. is a vertically integrated company in the seafood industry, with operations spanning harvesting, processing, and global distribution. It currently owns or holds stakes in undertakings across eight countries in Europe and North America. Some are associate companies, while others are fully owned by Alda Seafood.
Alda Seafood Holding B.V. is itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Samherji hf., the Icelandic fishing conglomerate founded in Akureyri in 1981. Alda was established to consolidate Samherji’s international operations under a single holding structure.
Alda’s portfolio spans harvesting, processing, logistics and distribution. In Germany, Alda fully owns Deutsche Fischfang-Union GmbH (DFFU), the country’s oldest fishing company, operating two trawlers. In France, Alda holds a 22.25% stake in Compagnie des Pêches Saint-Malo, which operates a fleet of trawlers and a surimi processing factory in Saint-Malo. In the United Kingdom, Alda owns 50% of UK Fisheries Ltd., operator of the freezer trawler Kirkella and fresh fish trawler Farnella, held through Onward Fishing Ltd., as well as 50% of Seagold, one of the UK’s leading fish importers and distributors.
In Poland, Alda holds 50% stakes in both Atlantex sp. z o.o., operating the factory trawler Annelies Ilena, and Arctic Navigations sp. z o.o., with vessels operating across the North-East Atlantic and South Pacific. Alda also owns 86.53% of PAOP, one of Poland’s leading cold storage companies.
In Latvia, Alda holds 50% of Batterfisa SIA, operating the freezer trawler Dorado II out of Riga. In Lithuania, Alda holds a 25% stake in Marlinas, which operates two shrimp trawlers out of Klaipeda. In Canada, Alda owns 49% of Newfound Resources Ltd., a shrimp specialist operated from St. John’s, Newfoundland. In Norway, Alda holds 39.9% of Nergård AS, Northern Norway’s largest supplier of pelagic species including herring, capelin and mackerel.
