FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Alda Seafood Holding Apologizes, Pledges Restitution and Cooperation with Authorities
22th of April, 2026
London — We at Alda Seafood Holding would like to issue a formal apology for our involvement, through our affiliated operations formerly conducted under Samherji, in matters related to the Fishrot scandal in Namibia.
As a vertically integrated seafood company with operations spanning harvesting, processing, and global distribution, we recognize that our structure carries not only operational advantages but also profound ethical responsibilities. In this context, we acknowledge the severity of the allegations associated with our activities, including corruption, bribery, and the systemic extraction of value from Namibia.
We recognize that actions carried out through Samherji’s operations in Namibia contributed to the undermining of governance structures, the misappropriation of fishing quotas, and the deprivation of critical national revenues intended for public welfare, including healthcare and education. We further acknowledge the long-term economic and social consequences these actions have had on local communities.
We accept responsibility for the use of facilitation payments, participation in corrupt financial arrangements, and the disproportionate extraction of profits relative to local benefit. We also acknowledge that these actions resulted in unfair competitive advantages and contributed to job losses within the Namibian fishing sector.
Alda Seafood Holding affirms its commitment to full transparency and cooperation with relevant authorities in Iceland, Namibia, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions where applicable.
This statement is made in light of ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom, where claims are being brought by Restitution Litigation Limited on behalf of Fishcor, seeking recovery of assets and damages associated with the Fishrot scandal. We recognize the legitimacy of efforts aimed at restitution and are committed to constructively engaging with all lawful processes connected to these claims.
We are aware of the broader international efforts, including those led by civil society organizations and anti-corruption entities, to recover assets believed to have been lost between 2012 and 2019. Alda Seafood Holding is prepared to assist in these efforts and explore all viable mechanisms to ensure that funds are returned to the people of Namibia.
We emphasize the importance of economic justice and acknowledge the historic and structural inequalities that enabled such practices to occur. Moving forward, we are committed to implementing rigorous compliance measures, strengthening governance frameworks, and ensuring that our global operations adhere to the highest ethical standards.
We are prepared to provide any necessary assistance to ensure that restitution is achieved and that affected communities are meaningfully supported. Our aim is not only to address past harms but to contribute to a more equitable and accountable future for all stakeholders involved.
This press release is issued on behalf of Alda Seafood Holding and is intended to incorporate all relevant operations, subsidiaries, and affiliated entities within its vertically integrated structure. This includes, among others, fishing operations such as Deutsche Fischfang-Union (Germany), Atlantex and Arctic Navigations (Poland), and Newfound Resources (Canada); processing and production entities including Icefresh GmbH (Germany) and Compagnie des Pêches Saint-Malo (France); logistics infrastructure such as PAOP (Poland); and commercial and distribution entities including Seagold and UK Fisheries (United Kingdom). For the avoidance of doubt, this statement extends to all activities conducted through these entities and any predecessor structures, including those formerly operating under Samherji.
